Why floss?

A thorough daily oral care routine is important to protect your teeth and gums - and it supports a bright and shining smile. Since brushing alone can’t always get to all the hard-to-reach places where food can get stuck and plaque builds up, you will need some extra help to maintain good oral health. Using floss helps you to reach these spots by sliding easily between teeth and just below the gum line to dislodge debris and remove plaque bacteria. You’ll be putting your fingers into your mouth, therefore be sure to wash your hands before you reach for the dental floss.

Unwind a string of floss about 18 inches long and snip off. Wind floss around your middle fingers and keep a one- to two-inch length of dental floss taut between them.

Use your thumbs and index fingers to guide floss between teeth. Wrap the floss around the sides of each tooth using a zigzag motion. This will help ensure that you get between gums and teeth.

Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under the gum line. Floss each tooth thoroughly - especially the back teeth. As you move from one tooth to the next, make sure to always unroll a fresh section of dental floss.
