This condition, where stomach contents flow back into the foodpipe, can cause distress, posseting (bringing up feeds), and heartburn.

How Gaviscon Infant Sachets Work

Each sachet contains a blend of sodium alginate and magnesium alginate, known as 'reflux suppressants'. When mixed with water or feed, these alginates form a protective raft on top of the stomach contents. This physical barrier helps to:

• Prevent stomach acid from flowing back into the oesophagus (foodpipe).
• Reduce episodes of posseting and being sick.
• Provide long-lasting relief from acid indigestion and heartburn.

Dosage Instructions

Always use Gaviscon Infant Sachets Pack of 30 exactly as described here. If you are unsure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.

• Infants under 4.5kg (10lb): One sachet per dose.
• Infants over 4.5kg (10lb) and Young Children (up to 2 years): Two sachets per dose.

Preparation Methods:

• For Breast-fed Infants and Young Children (up to 2 years):
  1. Add 5ml (1 teaspoon) of cooled, boiled water to the powder in a glass.
  2. Mix until a smooth paste is formed.
  3. Add another 10ml (2 teaspoons) of cooled, boiled water and mix again.
  4. For breast-fed infants, give Gaviscon Infant part way through each feed or meal using a spoon or feeding bottle.
  5. For other infants (up to 2 years), give Gaviscon Infant at the end of each meal using a spoon or feeding bottle.
• For Bottle-fed Infants:
  • Mix each sachet into 115ml (4 fluid oz) of milk feed in the bottle
  • Shake well
  • Feed as norma

Do not give more than six times in 24 hours.

If you forget to give Gaviscon Infant: If a dose is missed do not give a double dose with the next feed. Just carry on with the recommended dose. If you have any further questions on the use of this product ask your doctor or pharmacist.

If your child’s condition persists or becomes worse ask your doctor or other professional for advice immediately.

Gaviscon is not to be used by infants under 1 year of age, except under medical supervision.

Do not use Gaviscon Infant with other food thickening agents or infant milk preparations containing a thickening agent.

Do not use more than the stated amount.

Do not give more than six times in 24 hours.

Products containing Mannitol may have a laxative effect or cause diarrhoea.

Each sachet is security sealed. Do not use if damaged.

If your infant has been put on a low sodium (salt) diet ask your doctor or other health professional before taking the product.

Do not store above 30C.

Possible side effects: May have a laxative effect and cause diarrhoea due to the product's mannitol content.
