Sebco Ointment 100g

What is Sebco?

Sebco is a Coal Tar topical treatment for acute scalp psoriasis. It belongs to the group of treatments known as Antipruritic and keratolytic. 

How does it work? 

Tar used for medicinal purposes is derived from both coal and wood (e.g., juniper, pine). However, coal tar is the type used most commonly to treat psoriasis. It became available from the technology of coal gas production developed in the latter part of the 19th century. 

Coal tar is mildly antiseptic and relieves itching. It also acts as a keratolytic, which works to break down a protein which forms part of the skin structure called keratin. Skin thickening occurs due to the deposition of keratin. Coal tar helps to reduce the excessive hardening, thickening and scaling of the skin 

Who can get it?

Sebco is available over the counter from your local pharmacy for adults and children over the age of 6. 

Pierce the tube membrane by inverting the cap. Affix the scalp applicator to the threaded portion of the tube.

Part the hair and apply a thin ribbon of Sebco to the affected areas of the scalp. Take care to avoid contact with the eyes. Gently rub in the ointment and leave in contact with scalp for approximately one hour. Wash the hands immediately afterwards.

After one hour remove the ointment by showering or rinsing with warm water.

Use daily for 3—7 days then intermittently.

What are the side effects? 

For external use only, avoid contact with the eyes. 

Discontinue use if sensitivity occurs. 

Use sparingly.

Sulphur for external use 4% w/w 

Also contains Coconut Oil, White Soft Paraffin, Glycerol, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Liquid Paraffin, Polyoxyethylene Glycerol Monostearate, Hard Paraffin.
