How do the lozenges work
Tyrozets contain an antibiotic, tyrothricin, to help fight throat infection and a local anaesthetic, benzocaine, to numb sore throat pain quickly. The lozenges dissolve in the mouth, gradually releasing the active ingredients which reach the painful throat area at the back of the mouth before and during swallowing.
What are Tyrozets used for?
Tyrozets are used for the relief of sore throats and minor mouth irritations. Tyrozets may also be taken to relieve irritation after mouth and throat surgery e.g. having your tonsils taken out.
How should you take Tyrozets?
Adults and children over 3 years: dissolve one lozenge slowly in the mouth and repeat every three hours.
Adults do not take more than 8 lozenges in 24 hours.
Children's reduced dosage: Children do not take more than 6 lozenges in 24 hours.
Tyrozets are not recommended for children under the age of 3 years.
To benefit from Tyrozets you should suck the lozenges and not swallow them whole. They are for oral (mouth) use only
Do not use for longer than 5 consecutive days
Before using Tyrozets
Do not take it if you are allergic to tyrothricin, benzocaine or any other ingredient in this product. If you think you have become allergic during use, stop treatment immediately and see your doctor. Report any unwanted effects to your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not use more than 8 in any 24 hour period.
There are no special precautions during pregnancy or lactation.
Keep out of the reach of children.
What is in the lozenges?
Tyrozets are pink aniseed flavoured lozenges
Each containing: tyrothricin 1 mg and benzocaine 5 mg.
Other ingredients are: acacia, magnesium stearate, maize starch, sodium chloride, sucrose, anethole, erythrosine (E127) and peppermint oil. The sodium content is 2.3 mg (0.1 mmol) per lozenge.
