Doublebase - Everything You Need To Know

Published: 11th December, 2018 in: Health Advice Skin Conditions

Doublebase Gel is a treatment for skin conditions such as psoriasis, elderly pruritus, ichthyosis, various forms of eczema, and dermatitis, to name a few. These conditions could cause you to suffer with skin which is red/pink, sore, itchy, scaly, and thick. For many, these symptoms not only come with discomfort but also an element of embarrassment for their own skin. For conditions such as these, many use products like Doublebase Gel as a course of emollients and replacement soaps can be an effective way to treat skin conditions effectively.

What is an emollient?

An emollient is a moisturiser of sorts, for extremely dry skin. Emollients will help to prevent too much moisture from leaving your skin and will replace the natural oils being lost with oils contained in the emollient. Products such as Doublebase Gel contain active ingredients like Isopropyl Myristate and Liquid Paraffin, these are both known as emollients. These ingredients help to soften, moisturise, and protect your skin by trapping moisture in and restoring the normal protective function of the skin. They also prevent the skin-drying and irritant effects that can be caused by washing and bathing, and by the soaps/foaming additives and fragrances used in ordinary cleansing products.

How to apply Doublebase

When applying emollient products such as Doublebase Gel it is important that you do not rub the product into your skin vigorously. Apply the product to affected areas and rub into the skin using a few gentle strokes in the same direction as hair grow (much like when stroking a cat or dog). Apply the product on a regular basis in order to keep dry skin conditions at bay. You can also use products such as Doublebase Gel before and after bathing as well as combined with bathing products such as Doublebase Shower Gel  and Doublebase Wash Gel, which can both replace standard soaps in order to protect our skin during the cleansing process. You should also look to use Doublebase Bath Additive  in order to add the oils you may lose during bathing back into your skin.

What to avoid

When using Doublebase try to avoid using alongside soap products or bubble bath/bath additives; not only do these products tend to dry out your skin but things such as bubble bath can also make the Doublebase products less effective. The chemicals in bubble bath will break up the oils in the product, especially in the Doublebase Bath Additive.

This product CAN be used during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. The ingredients have been in widespread use in this and similar preparations for many years, without reports of problems. However, safety trials have not been concluded.

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients or show signs of a reaction when using the product then do not use/cease use immediately. You should contact a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist if your skin condition seems to look or feel worse, or if there is a severe reaction.
