Care Decongestant Oral Liquid is used for the relief of nose, sinus and upper chest congestion. 

It contains pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, which relieves congestion caused by common colds or allergies e.g. pollen.


Take this medicine by mouth.

Use the spoon provided to measure 5ml.

Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years:

  • Two 5ml spoonfuls three times a day.

Children under 12 years:

  • Do not give to children under 12 unless your doctor tells you to.


If you accidentally take too much, see a doctor straight away. Take the pack with you to show which medicine you have swallowed.


Do not use the medicine if you:

  • have an allergy to any of the ingredients.
  • have taken medicine for depression (monoamine oxidase inhibitors/MAOIs) within the last two weeks.
  • have severe kidney problems.
  • have taken other cough and cold medicines.
  • Are in the first 3 months of pregnancy.

Do not give to children under 12 years.

Talk to your doctor if you have:

  • Heart disease.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Diabetes.
  • An overactive thyroid gland.
  • Glaucoma (raised pressure inside the eyeball).
  • Bladder problems.
  • Prostate problems.
  • Poor kidney function.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:

  • Other decongestant medicines.
  • Stimulants (e.g. amphetamines).
  • Medicines to reduce your appetite.
  • Medicines which lower your blood pressure.
  • Beta blockers for a heart problem.
  • Cardiac glycosides for heart problems (e.g. digoxin).
  • Antidepressants.
  • The antibiotic Furazolidone.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine if you are pregnant, might be pregnant or are breastfeeding. Care Decongestant Oral Liquid should not be used in the first 3 months of pregnancy unless the doctor has told you to do so.

This medicine contains 1.9 vol% ethanol (alcohol), i.e up to 154mg per dose, equivalent to 4ml beer or 2ml of wine per dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in pregnant or breastfeeding women, children and high-risk groups such as people with liver disease and epilepsy.

It contains parahydroxybenzoates, sunset yellow dye and amaranth dye which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed). 

If you think you have any of the following side effects or symptoms, stop using this medicine immediately and see a doctor as soon as possible - Allergic reactions which may cause difficulty in breathing, fever, swelling of the mouth, lips or skin, severe rashes, itching or stomach pain.

Other possible side effects are:

  • Feeling sick.
  • Being sick.
  • Headache.
  • Skin rashes.
  • Anxiety.
  • Restlessness.
  • Insomnia (unable to sleep).
  • High blood pressure.
  • Trembling.
  • Palpitations.
  • Abnormal or rapid heartbeat.
  • Difficulty passing urine.
  • Sleep disorders and hallucinations.
  • Rarely, mental disorders.

If you notice these or any other side effect not included above, stop use and tell your doctor or pharmacist. They will tell you what to do.
