Peptac Aniseed Liquid Original 500ml

Peptac Aniseed Liquid Original 500ml works by forming a protective layer on top of your stomach contents. This helps to prevent stomach acid from escaping into the food pipe, which is often the cause of pain and discomfort associated with acid regurgitation and heartburn.

When to Use Peptac Aniseed Liquid

This aniseed-flavoured liquid can provide relief for symptoms that occur:

• After meals
• During pregnancy
• When lying down
• At night

Its active ingredients – sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate – work together to neutralise stomach acid and create a soothing barrier.

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Shake the bottle well before use.

Dosage:

• Adults and children over 12 years: Take 10-20ml (two to four 5ml spoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime.
• Children 6-12 years: Take 5-10ml after meals and at bedtime.

If symptoms persist after 7 days, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Active ingredients (per 5ml):

• Sodium alginate 250mg
• Sodium bicarbonate 133.5mg
• Calcium carbonate 80mg

Other ingredients:

• Carbomer
• Sodium hydroxide
• Saccharin sodium
• Ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214)
• Propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216)
• Butyl parahydroxybenzoate
• Isopropyl alcohol
• Erythrosine colour (E127)
• Star anise oil
• Purified water

Do not take Peptac Aniseed Liquid Original 500ml if:

• You are allergic to any of the ingredients (sodium bicarbonate, sodium alginate, calcium carbonate, or any of the other listed ingredients). Very rarely, difficulty in breathing and skin rashes have occurred.

Take special care before treatment with this medicine:

• This medicine contains 286.5 mg (12.45 mmol) sodium per 20 ml dose, which is equivalent to 14.3% of the recommended maximum daily dietary intake for an adult. The maximum daily dose is equivalent to 57.2% of the WHO recommended maximum daily intake for sodium. If you need to use this product daily for a prolonged period, especially if you are on a low sodium (salt) diet, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
• This medicine contains ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), and butyl parahydroxybenzoate, which may cause an allergic reaction (possibly delayed).
• If you take too much of this product, you may feel bloated and experience some abdominal discomfort. It is unlikely to cause any harm, but please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Taking other medicines:

Do not take this product within two hours of taking other medicines by mouth, as it can interfere with their action. This is especially important if you are taking:

• Antibiotics (tetracyclines and quinolones such as norfloxacin)
• Iron preparations
• Antifungals such as ketoconazole
• Digoxin and beta blockers (for heart conditions)
• Penicillamine (for rheumatoid arthritis)
• Glucocorticoids (for inflammatory and autoimmune disorders)
• Neuroleptics (for mental illness)
• Thyroid hormones
• Chloroquine (for malaria)
• Estramustine (for prostate cancer)
• Bisphosphonates (for osteoporosis)
• ACE inhibitors (for high blood pressure)
• Analgesics (for pain relief)
• Antiepileptics
• Antipsychotics
• Lithium (for mental health problems)

Possible Side Effects:

Like all medicines, Peptac Aniseed Liquid can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Very rarely (less than 1 in 10,000 patients treated), an allergic reaction to the ingredients may occur. Symptoms include skin rash, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. If you experience these or any other side effects, stop taking the product and consult your doctor or pharmacist.

How to store this medicine:

Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the pack. Store below 25°C. Do not refrigerate.
