Do i need a vaccination every year?
Yes, it is highly recommended to get a flu vaccination each year.
The flu virus is constantly evolving and changing. The strains that are most common one year are often different from the strains that will be circulating the next. Because of this, a new flu vaccine is created annually to provide protection against the specific viruses that are expected to be present during that year's flu season.
Getting a new flu jab each year ensures you are protected against the latest strains of the virus.
Can I get the flu from the flu jab?
No, you cannot get the flu from the flu jab. The adult flu vaccine does not contain a live virus, so it is impossible to catch the flu from it. It works by stimulating your immune system to produce antibodies that protect you from the virus.
What are the side effects of the flu vaccine?
Most people do not experience any side effects from the flu jab. However, some common and mild side effects may include a sore arm where the injection was given, a slight temperature, or muscle aches. These symptoms are temporary and usually resolve within a day or two.
Is the flu vaccine safe for pregnant women?
Yes, the flu vaccine is safe and highly recommended for pregnant women. Getting the flu jab protects both you and your unborn baby from the flu, as pregnant women are at a higher risk of developing serious complications from the virus. You can have the vaccine at any stage of your pregnancy
When is the best time to get a flu vaccine?
The best time to get your flu vaccine is in autumn or early winter, before the flu virus begins to circulate widely. The NHS will let you know when the vaccines become available for your eligible group. Getting vaccinated early in the season gives you the best chance of being protected throughout the winter.
What if I'm not eligible for the free NHS flu vaccine?
If you do not meet the criteria for a free NHS flu vaccine, you can still get protected. We offer a private flu vaccination service for a fee. Please speak to one of our pharmacists in-store or check our website for details on how to book and the cost of the private service.
Where can I get a flu jab?
