Lubricants FAQs
How do you use lube?
Apply a small amount to the desired area or directly onto a condom before intimacy. You can reapply as needed. Start with a small amount and increase if necessary.
Does lube expire or go out of date?
Yes, lubricants do expire. Always check the expiry date printed on the packaging. Using expired products may reduce effectiveness and increase the risk of irritation.
How long does lube last?
Once applied, water-based lubricants may need to be reapplied during use. Shelf life varies by product but is typically 1–3 years unopened.
Can lube cause thrush or UTIs?
Some individuals may experience irritation if sensitive to certain ingredients (such as glycerine or fragrances). Choosing a gentle, pH-balanced lubricant may help reduce risk. If symptoms persist, consult a healthcare professional.
Can you use coconut oil, baby oil or Vaseline as lube?
Oil-based household products such as coconut oil, baby oil or petroleum jelly are not recommended for use with latex condoms, as they can weaken the material and increase the risk of breakage. They may also increase the risk of irritation or infection.
Can you use moisturiser as lube?
No. Standard body moisturisers are not designed for intimate use and may cause irritation or disrupt natural balance.
Can you use lube while pregnant?
In most cases, water-based lubricants are safe during pregnancy. However, if you have any medical concerns, consult your GP.
