Do not take Cuprofen 400mg Tablets Pack of 96 if you:
- Are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, other related painkillers, or any other ingredient in this product.
- Have (or have had two or more episodes) a stomach ulcer, perforation, or bleeding of the stomach.
- Are taking aspirin at doses above 75 mg daily.
- Are taking other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Suffer from severe heart, kidney, or liver failure.
- Are in the last 3 months of pregnancy, as it could harm your unborn child or cause problems at delivery. It can cause kidney and heart problems in your unborn baby.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you:
- Are elderly.
- Suffer or have suffered from asthma or allergic disease (e.g., hayfever).
- Suffer from a mixed connective tissue disease (e.g., Systemic Lupus Erythematosus).
- Have liver or kidney problems.
- Have heart problems, previous stroke, or think you might be at risk for these conditions (e.g., high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or if you are a smoker).
- Have problems becoming pregnant (Cuprofen Maximum Strength Tablets may impair fertility, an effect reversible on stopping the medicine).
- Suffer from stomach or bowel problems (e.g., stomach ulcers, bleeding, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease).
- Have an infection (this medicine may hide signs of infections).
- Are breast feeding or are in the first 6 months of pregnancy.
Possible side effects:
As with all medicines, Cuprofen 400mg Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The elderly are more likely to suffer such effects. Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience:
- Passing blood in your faeces (stools/motions) or black tarry stools.
- Vomiting any blood or dark particles that look like coffee grounds.
- Allergic reactions including bruising, facial swelling, swelling of lips/throat/tongue, difficulty breathing/swallowing, wheezing, severe skin reactions (e.g., blistering, peeling skin, rapid heart rate/palpitations, collapsing, low blood pressure).
- Severe skin reaction known as DRESS syndrome (skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, increased eosinophils).
- A red, scaly widespread rash with bumps and blisters (acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis).
- Indigestion, heartburn, abdominal pain, or other abdominal stomach symptoms.
- Blood disorders (e.g., anaemia, low white blood cells, unexplained bruising/bleeding, sore throat, mouth ulcers, fever, extreme paleness, weakness, exhaustion).
- Very rarely, blood in urine, kidney damage/failure, or liver problems (yellowing of skin/eyes).
- Rare reports of aseptic meningitis (symptoms: headache, stiff neck, disorientation, fever, eye sensitivity to light), particularly in patients with existing auto-immune disorders (e.g., Lupus).
Other possible side effects (tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice):
- Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): Nausea and indigestion, skin rashes.
- Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): Diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, or flatulence.
- Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): Worsening of existing bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease).
- Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from available data): Headache, skin becomes sensitive to light.
Medicines like Cuprofen Maximum Strength Tablets may be associated with a small increased risk of heart attack or stroke, particularly at high doses. Fluid retention (oedema), high blood pressure, and heart failure have also been reported. If you are concerned about these effects, stop taking and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
