Description

A night time cold and flu liquid with three active ingredients

Numark Night Cold and Flu Oral Solution is a clear green, mint flavoured, sugar-free cold and flu liquid for the symptomatic night time relief of colds, chills and influenza. Every 20 ml adult dose contains 1000 mg paracetamol, 20 mg promethazine hydrochloride and 15 mg dextromethorphan hydrobromide monohydrate, and each active ingredient has its own role:

  • Paracetamol reduces fever.
  • Promethazine, a sedating antihistamine, dries up a runny nose and aids restful sleep.
  • Dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant, relieves a dry, irritating tickly cough.

Because promethazine can make you feel sleepy, it's taken once a night, just before going to bed. You'll find more on managing symptoms in our colds and flu section and our guide to cold and flu symptoms and treatments.

FAQ

Can I take paracetamol during the day and Numark Night Cold and Flu at night?

Don't take anything else containing paracetamol while taking Numark Night Cold and Flu Oral Solution, which contains 1000 mg of paracetamol in each 20 ml dose. If you have taken other paracetamol-containing products during the day, the night time dose counts towards your maximum daily dose, and it should not be taken if you've already had four doses of paracetamol that day. Don't combine it with any other flu, cold or decongestant product. If you're unsure, ask a pharmacist.

Does Numark Night Cold and Flu Oral Solution contain alcohol?

Yes. Each 20 ml dose contains 2916 mg of alcohol (ethanol), equivalent to 18.08% v/v. That's the same as about 73 ml of beer or 29 ml of wine. Don't drink alcohol while taking it. If you have epilepsy or liver problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are addicted to alcohol, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

Will Numark Night Cold and Flu Oral Solution make me drowsy?

Yes, it can make you feel sleepy or dizzy. It's taken just before going to bed. Don't drive while taking it until you know how it affects you; it's an offence to drive if a medicine affects your ability to drive. The alcohol in the solution can also affect your judgement and how fast you react. Older people are more likely to have side effects, including confusion, and it should not be given to elderly patients with confusion.

Can children take Numark Night Cold and Flu Oral Solution?

Not under 12 years of age. Children aged 12 to 15 years take a 10 ml to 15 ml dose just before going to bed, and adults and children aged 16 years and over take 20 ml. The alcohol in this medicine is likely to affect children, and effects may include feeling sleepy and changes in behaviour.

Is Numark Night Cold and Flu Oral Solution sugar free?

Yes, it's a sugar-free, mint flavoured solution sweetened with liquid maltitol and acesulfame K. Maltitol may have a mild laxative effect. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking it.

How long can I take Numark Night Cold and Flu Oral Solution for?

Take one dose per night for no longer than 3 days. It can lead to dependence, so treatment should be short. If your symptoms don't improve, or you feel worse, talk to your doctor.
