Frequently Asked Questions About Nappies

How many nappies does a newborn need per day?

In the early weeks, you can expect to go through 8 to 12 nappies per day. It is normal to see at least 6 wet nappies and several dirty nappies daily as your baby’s feeding establishes. When packing your bag, we recommend you take at least 20 nappies to the hospital to cover the first couple of days.

What size nappies should I buy for a newborn and when should I size up?

Most newborns start in Size 0 or Size 1. You should size up nappies if you notice frequent leaks, red marks around the legs, or if the adhesive tabs no longer reach the centre of the waistband. If you are wondering which nappies are best, it often comes down to finding the brand that best fits your baby's unique shape.

Are nappies biodegradable and do they go out of date?

Most standard disposable nappies are not fully biodegradable, though many brands now offer eco-friendly versions with more sustainable materials. Regarding shelf life, nappies do not go out of date in terms of safety, but their adhesive strength and absorbency can slightly decline after three years.
