Almus Chesty Cough Syrup 200ml

A traditional formulation

Glycerin and ipecacuanha extract is one of the long-established cough preparations, and this oral solution contains ipecacuanha liquid extract 0.0098 ml with glycerin 0.5 ml per 5 ml. It is taken for the relief of coughs.

Who it is for

This solution is for adults, the elderly and children over 12 years. It is not recommended for children under 12. It should not be taken alongside any other cough and cold medicines, and no more than four doses should be taken in any 24 hours.

Before you take it

This solution is not suitable for everyone. It should not be taken by anyone who is pregnant or breast-feeding except on a doctor's advice, or by anyone with kidney, liver or heart problems, circulation problems, or who is at risk of seizure. Ipecacuanha liquid extract may interact with antiarrhythmic medicines. Read the warnings in full before use, and check with your pharmacist if you take any other medicines.

Practical details

• Ipecacuanha liquid extract 0.0098 ml and glycerin 0.5 ml per 5 ml
• Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years
• Maximum 4 doses in any 24 hours
• 200ml bottle

Liquid for oral use.

• Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: Take 5 to 10 ml, 3 to 4 times daily. Not more than 4 doses should be taken in any 24 hours.
• Children under 12 years: Not recommended.

Do not take with any other cough and cold medicines.

Do not take more medicine than the label tells you to. If you accidentally take too much, contact your nearest hospital immediately.

Do not store above 25°C. Store away from direct sources of heat and sunlight. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use

• If you are allergic to any of the ingredients
• If you are in shock
• If you are at risk of seizure
• If you have blood circulation problems
• If you have kidney, liver or heart problems
• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, unless on the advice of your doctor

Check before taking

• If you are taking other medicines, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
• Ipecacuanha liquid extract may interact with antiarrhythmic drugs.
• If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before using this medicinal product.
• Contains 3.2 g of sucrose per 10 ml dose. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus.
• Do not take with any other cough and cold medicines.

Further warnings

• This medicinal product contains small amounts of ethanol (alcohol), less than 100 mg per 10 ml dose.
• Contains E123 — may cause allergic reactions.
• Contains E214, E216 and E218 — may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Side effects

May cause indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and cardiac conduction abnormalities (heart palpitations).
