Important Warnings for Calpol SixPlus Fast Melts Strawberry Flavour Tablets Pack of 24
This medicine is suitable for most people, but some individuals should not use it. If you are in any doubt, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not give this medicine to your child if:
- S/he has ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients.
- S/he is taking anything else with paracetamol in it.
- S/he has phenylketonuria (a hereditary disease discovered at birth).
If any of these applies, get advice from a doctor or pharmacist without using Calpol.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if:
- Your child has serious kidney or liver problems.
- Your child is taking any other medicines, including:
- Metoclopramide or domperidone (for nausea and vomiting)
- Colestyramine (for high cholesterol)
- Anticoagulants (blood thinners, such as warfarin)
- Anticonvulsants (for epilepsy)
- Flucloxacillin (antibiotic), due to a serious risk of blood and fluid abnormality (metabolic acidosis).
If you are not sure about the medicine your child is taking, show the bottle or pack to your pharmacist.
Additional Warnings for Adults (if taking this product):
- You can use this medicine while taking oral contraceptives ('the pill'), but it may not work as well.
- If you drink large amounts of alcohol, you may be more susceptible to paracetamol's side effects.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Use the lowest possible dose for the shortest time.
Some ingredients can cause problems:
- This medicine contains 8 mg aspartame (E951), a source of phenylalanine, which may be harmful to people with phenylketonuria (PKU).
- Contains mannitol (E421), which may have a mild laxative effect.
- Contains 0.00064 mg benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions. Seek advice if pregnant, breastfeeding, or if you have liver or kidney disease due to the risk of metabolic acidosis.
- Contains 0.0011 g glucose. If you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Possible Side-Effects:
Calpol SixPlus Fast Melts can have side-effects, though they don't affect everyone and are usually mild. Stop use and seek medical advice immediately if your child experiences:
- Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty swallowing, unexplained wheezing, shortness of breath, rash, or hives.
- Becoming unusually tired, unexpected bruising or bleeding, or getting more infections than usual (rare).
- Very rare serious skin reactions (skin reddening, blisters, rash).
- A serious condition called metabolic acidosis (frequency 'not known'). Symptoms may include serious breathing difficulties with deep rapid breathing, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting.
Long-term daily use of paracetamol (several months or more) can lead to liver and kidney damage. People taking paracetamol as directed for shorter periods have not reported these issues.
If overdose occurs, seek immediate medical advice, even if the child seems well, due to the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
If you forget a dose, give the next dose when needed, provided the last dose was given at least 4 hours ago. Do not give a double dose.
Storage:
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
- Do not use after the expiry date shown on the packaging.
- Dispose of medicines responsibly. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer require to protect the environment.
