Description

Understanding Furosoral Tablet for Cats & Dogs 10mg

Furosoral Tablet for Cats & Dogs 10mg is a vital veterinary medicine prescribed for pets suffering from conditions where fluid retention (oedema) is a concern. The active ingredient, Furosemide 10mg, is a powerful loop diuretic. This means it works by helping your pet's kidneys remove excess water and salts from the body, thereby reducing swelling and improving their comfort and health.

When is Furosoral Tablet Prescribed?

Your veterinarian may prescribe Furosoral Tablet for Cats & Dogs 10mg to manage various fluid accumulation conditions, including:

  • Hydrothorax: Fluid buildup around the lungs.
  • Hydropericardium: Fluid around the heart.
  • Ascites: Fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity.
  • Generalised Oedema: Swelling due to fluid retention, particularly those related to:
    • Cardiac Insufficiency: Where the heart isn't pumping effectively, leading to fluid backup.
    • Renal Dysfunction: Impaired kidney function that prevents proper fluid balance.

By effectively reducing this excess fluid, Furosemide 10mg can significantly improve your pet's quality of life, making breathing easier and reducing discomfort. As a prescription-only veterinary medicine, Furosoral Tablet for Cats & Dogs 10mg ensures your pet receives appropriate and safe treatment under professional guidance. At Weldricks Pharmacy, we provide access to these essential medications with the convenience of online ordering and discreet UK delivery.

Directions

Warnings

Furosoral Tablet for Cats & Dogs 40mg is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM-V). Always consult your veterinarian before use and follow their advice carefully.

Do Not Use Furosoral If Your Pet Suffers From:

  • Hypovolaemia, hypotension, or dehydration.
  • Renal failure with anuria (no urine production).
  • Electrolyte deficiency.
  • Known hypersensitivity to furosemide, sulphonamides, or any of the excipients.
  • Acute glomerular nephritis.
  • Excessive doses of cardiac glycosides.
  • Concurrently with other loop diuretics.

Special Warnings for Animals:

  • Increased intake of drinking water may reduce the therapeutic efficacy. Where your pet's condition permits, water intake should be restricted to physiologically normal levels during treatment.
  • Use with caution if your pet has pre-existing electrolyte and/or water imbalance, impaired hepatic function (can precipitate hepatic coma), or diabetes mellitus.
  • For prolonged treatment, hydration status and serum electrolytes should be monitored frequently.
  • Renal function and hydration status should be monitored 1-2 days before and after starting treatment with diuretics and ACE inhibitors.
  • Furosemide should be used with caution in patients with nephrotic syndrome.
  • In cats, do not use furosemide with ototoxic antibiotics.
  • Concurrent use with drugs affecting electrolyte balance (e.g., corticosteroids, other diuretics, amphotericin B, cardiac glycosides) requires careful monitoring.
  • Concomitant use with aminoglycosides or cephalosporins may increase the risk of nephrotoxicity.
  • Furosemide may increase the risk of sulfonamide cross-reactivity.
  • Furosemide may alter insulin requirements in diabetic animals.
  • Furosemide may reduce the excretion of NSAIDs.
  • The dose regimen may need to be reduced for long-term treatment in combination with ACE inhibitors, depending on the animal’s response.

Use During Pregnancy, Lactation, or Lay:

  • Laboratory studies show evidence of teratogenic effects.
  • The safety of the product has not been established during pregnancy or lactation.
  • Furosemide is excreted into milk.
  • Use in pregnant and lactating animals only according to a strict benefit/risk assessment by your veterinarian.
  • A negative effect on lactation is expected, especially if drinking water is restricted.

Possible Adverse Reactions (Rare):

  • Soft faeces (usually transient and mild, not requiring withdrawal).
  • Hemoconcentration and impaired circulation due to diuretic action.
  • Electrolyte deficiency (including hypokalemia, hyponatraemia) and dehydration with prolonged treatment.

Overdose:

Doses higher than recommended may cause transitory deafness, electrolyte and water balance problems, CNS effects (lethargy, coma, seizures) and cardiovascular effects (hypotension, heart rhythm disorders, collapse), especially in old and weakened animals. Treatment is symptomatic.

Special Precautions for the Person Administering the Product:

  • Furosemide has possible genotoxic properties and evidence of carcinogenicity in mice. Avoid skin contact or accidental ingestion.
  • Wear impervious gloves during handling and administration, and wash hands thoroughly afterwards.
  • Return any unused part-tablet to the open blister space and box for safe storage, out of sight and reach of children.
  • In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or label to the physician.
  • People with known hypersensitivity to furosemide or other ingredients should avoid contact. Do not handle if sensitive to sulphonamides, as cross-hypersensitivity may occur. If symptoms like skin rash, swelling of face/lips/eyes, or breathing difficulties occur, seek urgent medical attention.
