Four symptoms, one liquid dose

Cold & Flu All-in-One Liquid combines paracetamol with a decongestant, an expectorant and an antiseptic in a single measured dose, intended for adults and adolescents over 16 dealing with the discomfort of colds and flu.

What each ingredient does

• Paracetamol – helps ease headache and reduces fever
• Phenylephrine hydrochloride – a decongestant that helps clear a blocked nose and sinuses
• Guaifenesin – an expectorant that loosens phlegm from a chesty cough
• Cetylpyridinium chloride – an antiseptic that helps soothe a tickly sore throat

Using the liquid

The 160ml bottle provides eight 20ml doses, measured out using the cup supplied. Shake the bottle well before each use, and check the dosing and safety information carefully before you start, as this medicine is not suitable for everyone.

Shake the bottle well before each use. This medicine is taken by mouth using the measuring cup provided.

• Adults and adolescents aged over 16 years: Fill the measuring cup to the 20ml mark and take one 20ml dose (four 5ml spoonfuls). Wipe the neck of the bottle clean and replace the cap securely, without over-tightening it. Leave at least 4-6 hours between doses, and do not take more than a maximum of 4 doses in any 24 hours. For short term use only.
• Elderly patients or patients with kidney or liver problems: Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine as you may require a reduced dose or different dosage intervals.
• Do not give this medicine to children under 16 years of age.

If you forget a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose.

If you experience pain or fever for more than 3 days, or if it gets worse, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor. If you do not get better, talk to your doctor. You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 24 hours.

Talk to a doctor at once if you take more of this medicine than you should, even if you feel well, as too much paracetamol can cause delayed, serious liver damage.

Do not take this medicine if you:

• are allergic to paracetamol, phenylephrine hydrochloride, guaifenesin, cetylpyridinium chloride or any of the other ingredients
• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• are taking antidepressant drugs called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or have taken them within the last 14 days – medicines such as moclobemide, phenelzine and isocarboxazid
• have high blood pressure (hypertension)
• have a serious heart or circulatory condition
• have diabetes mellitus
• have phaeochromocytoma (a rare tumour of the adrenal gland tissue)
• are taking other decongestant medicines or medicines to stop you feeling hungry
• have an overactive thyroid gland
• have an enlarged prostate or prostate problems
• are taking tricyclic antidepressants such as imipramine or amitriptyline
• are taking medicines to lower blood pressure, or to treat heart or circulatory problems, such as beta blockers (e.g. atenolol)
• have a specific eye condition called angle closure glaucoma

Do not give this medicine to anyone under 16 years of age.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you:

• suffer from liver or kidney problems, including alcoholic liver disease
• are breastfeeding
• have frequent or daily headaches despite (or because of) the regular use of headache medications
• suffer from asthma
• are an alcoholic
• suffer from a disorder that affects your red blood cells, such as glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency or haemolytic anaemia
• suffer from glutathione deficiency
• are dehydrated or suffer from malnutrition
• weigh less than 50kg
• suffer from inability to completely empty the bladder
• suffer from problems with your blood circulation (e.g. Raynaud's syndrome)
• suffer from epilepsy

During treatment with this medicine, tell your doctor straight away if you have severe illnesses, including severe renal impairment or sepsis, or if you suffer from malnutrition or chronic alcoholism, or if you are also taking flucloxacillin (an antibiotic). A serious condition called metabolic acidosis (a blood and fluid abnormality) has been reported in these situations when paracetamol is used at regular doses for a prolonged period, or when paracetamol is taken together with flucloxacillin. Symptoms of metabolic acidosis may include serious breathing difficulties with deep rapid breathing, drowsiness, feeling sick (nausea) and being sick (vomiting).

This medicine contains paracetamol. Do not take anything else containing paracetamol while taking this medicine.

This medicine contains 6.286g of sorbitol and 3g of alcohol (ethanol, equivalent to 19% v/v) in each 20ml dose. Sorbitol may cause gastrointestinal discomfort and a mild laxative effect; talk to your doctor before use if you have an intolerance to some sugars or hereditary fructose intolerance. The amount of alcohol is not likely to have an effect in adults and adolescents, but may have some effect in younger children, such as feeling sleepy. If you are addicted to alcohol, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

Stop taking this medicine and see your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience: a sudden, severe allergic reaction with breathing difficulty, swelling, lightheadedness, fast heartbeat, sweating or loss of consciousness; signs of a blood disorder such as unusual bleeding or bruising, sore throat, mouth ulcers, fever or unusual tiredness; excessive and prolonged contraction of the airway muscles causing breathing difficulty; sudden inflammation of the pancreas; a serious skin reaction; or eye disorders such as widening of the pupils or a rapid rise in eye pressure, most likely in those with closed angle glaucoma.

Each 20ml dose contains the active ingredients:

• Paracetamol 1000mg
• Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 12.18mg
• Guaifenesin 200mg
• Cetylpyridinium Chloride 3.0mg

Other ingredients: Sorbitol (E420), Ethanol, Propylene Glycol, Glycerol (E422), Saccharin Sodium, Sodium Cyclamate, Acesulfame Potassium, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid (E330), Xanthan Gum (E415), Levomenthol, Eucalyptus Oil, Quinoline Yellow (E104), and Purified Water.
