Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Aniseed 500ml

Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Aniseed 500ml offers a unique dual action to combat the discomfort of indigestion and heartburn. Its powerful formula works in two distinct ways:

• Neutralising Excess Stomach Acid: It quickly gets to work, reducing the acidity in your stomach to relieve pain and discomfort.
• Forming a Protective Barrier: A strong, protective layer is created over your stomach contents, helping to prevent acid from rising into your food pipe (oesophagus), providing long-lasting soothing relief from that burning sensation in your chest, often associated with acid regurgitation and gastro-oesophageal reflux.

The aniseed flavour makes it a pleasant and effective solution for adults and children over 12. Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Aniseed 500ml is also suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, though it's always wise to consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if symptoms persist.

For oral use. Shake well before use.

Dosage:

• Adults and children over 12 years: Take 10-20ml (two to four 5ml spoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.
• Children under 12 years: Not to be given unless recommended by your doctor.

If you forget a dose, it is not necessary to double the next dose; simply continue taking as before. Ensure the cap seal is unbroken before first use.

Do not take Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Aniseed 500ml if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Rarely, allergic reactions such as difficulty in breathing and skin rashes have occurred.

Important Considerations:

• Each 10ml dose contains 127.88 mg sodium (equivalent to 6.4% of the recommended maximum daily dietary intake for an adult). The maximum recommended daily dose contains 1023.04 mg sodium (51.15% of the adult recommended maximum daily dietary intake). If you are on a low salt (sodium) diet or require this product daily for a prolonged period, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
• This product can mask symptoms of more serious, underlying medical conditions. If symptoms persist for more than 7 days continuously, please speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
• Contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
• Contains 1.05 mg benzyl alcohol per 10ml, which may cause allergic reactions. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or have liver or kidney disease, as large amounts of benzyl alcohol can build up and cause side effects (e.g., “metabolic acidosis”).

Drug Interactions:

Do not take this product within two hours of other oral medicines as it may interfere with their action. This is particularly important if you are taking:

• Antihistamines
• Antibiotics (tetracyclines and quinolones, e.g., norfloxacin)
• Iron preparation
• Thyroid hormones
• Antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole)
• Digoxin and beta-blockers (for heart conditions)
• Neuroleptics (for mental illness)
• Thyroxine
• Chloroquine (for malaria)
• Bisphosphonates (for osteoporosis)
• Estramustine (for prostate cancer)

Possible Side Effects:

Very rarely (less than 1 in 10,000 patients), an allergic reaction to ingredients may occur, including skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you experience these or any other side effects, stop taking the product and consult your doctor immediately.

Other side effects of unknown frequency may include constipation, irritability, muscle twitching or muscle cramps, indigestion that returns when you stop taking the tablets, and high levels of calcium in the blood (from large doses of calcium carbonate over prolonged periods).

Storage:

• Do not use after the expiry date shown.
• Use within 6 months of opening.
• Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not store above 30°C.
• Do not refrigerate or freeze.

Active Ingredients: Each 10ml of oral suspension contains 500mg sodium alginate, 213mg sodium bicarbonate, and 325mg calcium carbonate.

Also contains: Sodium, calcium, methyl (E218) and propyl (E216) parahydroxybenzoates, carbomer, benzyl alcohol (present in fennel flavour), sodium saccharin, fennel flavour, sodium hydroxide and water. This product does not contain sugar or gluten.
