Vitamin D for babies and young children
Vitamin D is needed for normal growth and development of bone in children, and contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Each 0.5ml dose provides 10mcg (400 IU) of vitamin D3, the form of vitamin D the body makes naturally in sunlight.
The Department of Health recommendation
The UK Department of Health recommends that babies from birth to one year have a daily supplement containing 8.5 to 10mcg of vitamin D, and that children from one to four years have a daily supplement containing 10mcg. Babies having 500ml or more of infant formula a day may not need a supplement, because formula already has vitamins added.
Easy to give
A measuring dropper is included, marked at the 0.5ml daily dose. For young babies, the drops are given one at a time onto the nipple or bottle teat so they can suckle each drop. From six months, they can be added straight into your child's usual milk or water.
