Description

Nicotinell TTS30 Patient Support Material and Patches (21mg) Pack of 7 are your first step in the Nicotinell 3-step programme, specifically formulated for individuals who smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day. By delivering a controlled amount of nicotine through your skin, these patches help reduce the urge to smoke and alleviate common withdrawal symptoms, supporting you around the clock.

How Nicotinell Patches Work

Nicotinell patches replace the nicotine you would normally get from cigarettes, helping your body gradually adjust to less nicotine until you no longer need it. The 21mg strength (TTS30) is the highest dose, suitable for heavy smokers, and works continuously for 24 hours, even while you sleep, to combat morning cravings.

The Nicotinell 3-Step Programme

The Nicotinell programme is designed to gradually reduce your nicotine dependence over a period of up to 12 weeks. The steps are:

  • Step 1 (TTS30, 21mg): For smokers of more than 20 cigarettes per day, used for the first 3-4 weeks. This is the product on this page.
  • Step 2 (TTS20, 14mg): For smokers of less than 20 cigarettes per day, or after completing Step 1, used for the next 3-4 weeks.
  • Step 3 (TTS10, 7mg): After completing Step 2, used for the final 3-4 weeks.

It's crucial to follow the programme as directed to gradually decrease your nicotine intake and increase your chances of successfully quitting. Always consult a healthcare professional, such as your doctor or a Weldricks pharmacist, if you need further advice or support during your quit journey.

FAQ

Who are Nicotinell TTS30 (21mg) patches for?

Nicotinell TTS30 Patient Support Material and Patches (21mg) Pack of 7 are specifically designed for heavy smokers, defined as those who smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day. They are the first step in the Nicotinell 3-step programme to help reduce nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

How long should I use Nicotinell TTS30 patches?

Nicotinell TTS30 (21mg) patches are typically used for the first 3-4 weeks of your quit smoking programme. After this, you should usually move to Step 2 (14mg) patches to continue gradually reducing your nicotine intake. The entire programme usually lasts for 3 months.

Can I smoke while using Nicotinell patches?

No, you must not smoke at all while using Nicotinell TTS30 Patient Support Material and Patches (21mg) Pack of 7. The purpose of the patches is to replace the nicotine from cigarettes. Smoking while using the patches can lead to nicotine overdose, causing unpleasant side effects.

What if my Nicotinell patch falls off?

If your Nicotinell patch falls off, carefully dispose of it and apply a new patch to a different, clean, dry, hairless area of skin. Ensure the new patch is pressed firmly for at least 20 seconds to ensure it adheres properly. Remember to rotate application sites daily.

What are the common side effects of Nicotinell patches?

Common side effects may include application site reactions like itching, redness, swelling, or a burning sensation where the patch is applied. Other common effects can include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and sleep disturbances. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, stop use and consult a healthcare professional.

Directions

For adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. Always read the instructions provided in the pack carefully.

How to Apply Nicotinell TTS30 Patches:

  1. Apply one new patch every 24 hours, preferably in the morning at roughly the same time each day.
  2. Choose a clean, dry, hairless area of skin for application, such as the shoulder blade, hip, front or side of the chest, or upper arm. Avoid red, broken, or irritated skin, and areas that crease.
  3. Cut open the sachet along the dotted line, taking care not to damage the patch inside.
  4. Carefully remove the small section of the silver-coloured backing, then the larger section. Avoid touching the sticky surface with your fingers as much as possible.
  5. Place the sticky side of the patch onto the chosen site.
  6. Press firmly with the palm of your hand for at least 20 seconds to ensure the patch is securely stuck down.
  7. Run your finger around the edge of the patch to make sure it is firmly stuck. Avoid fiddling with the patch during the day.
  8. After handling, avoid contact with your eyes and nose, and wash your hands.
  9. If the patch is not sticking well, clean the application area with a little surgical spirit and allow it to dry naturally before reapplying.
  10. Leave the patch in place for 24 hours. If you are pregnant, the patch should be removed before going to bed.

During Use:

  • You can bathe, shower, or swim with the patch on.
  • If the patch falls off, dispose of it carefully and apply a new patch to a different area of skin.
  • You must not smoke whilst using these patches.

Removing and Disposing of Patches:

  • After 24 hours, remove the old patch. Fold it in half with the sticky side inwards and dispose of it carefully. Even used patches contain active medication harmful to children, so keep them out of sight and reach of children.
  • Always apply your new patch to a different area of skin. Allow at least 7 days to elapse before a new patch is applied to the same area of skin.

Duration of Use:

  • The Nicotinell Patch programme usually lasts for 3 months.
  • If you still need help controlling your cravings at the end of the 12-week treatment period, speak to a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist for further advice.
  • Do not use the patches beyond 12 months without consulting a healthcare professional.
  • Adolescents aged 12-17 years should seek medical advice before use and should not use the patches beyond 10 weeks without professional advice.

  • Are a non-smoker or occasional smoker.
  • Have a skin disease that might be aggravated by the patches.

Consult your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist before starting to use these patches if you:

  • Are under 12 years of age.
  • Are in hospital with a serious heart disease (e.g., recent heart attack, heart rhythm problems, heart failure, chest pain, uncontrolled high blood pressure).
  • Have had a "stroke" (cerebrovascular accident).
  • Suffer from liver or kidney problems.
  • Have ever had a stomach ulcer or oesophagitis.
  • Are diabetic (monitor your blood sugar levels more often, as insulin/medication requirements may change).

  • Have a tumour of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma).
  • Have ever experienced seizures.
  • Are taking any other medicines or complementary therapy.

Important Warnings:

  • Do not exceed the stated dose.
  • For external use only.
  • Keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children.
  • Nicotinell Patches contain Aluminium: Remove the patch before any medical scan or cardiac procedure to regulate your heart rate, as aluminium is present in one of the layers of the patch.
  • Skin Reactions: Stop using the patch and consult a healthcare professional immediately if you get severe skin redness, swelling, or rash that does not go away. This is more likely if you have a history of skin disorders like eczema or hives. Changing the application site daily can help prevent irritation.
  • Symptoms of Nicotine Overdose: If you use more than the recommended dosage or leave the patch on too long, or if you are a non-smoker/occasional smoker and experience symptoms, you may develop signs of nicotine overdose. These include sweating, shaking, nausea, shortness of breath, irregular heart beat, palpitations, vomiting, salivation, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, hearing disturbance, or weakness. Immediately remove the patch, wash the skin with water (do NOT use soap), and contact your doctor, pharmacist, or nearest hospital casualty department. If a child under 12 uses, chews, or swallows this medicine, contact a doctor or A&E department immediately.
  • Missed Dose: If you forget to change your patch at the usual time, change it as soon as you remember. Do not use 2 patches to make up for a missed dose.
