Description

Gentle & Effective Relief for Teething Babies

Calpol Calgel Teething Gel 10g is designed to help your baby cope with the discomfort of teething. It contains two active ingredients that work together to provide comprehensive relief:

  • Lidocaine Hydrochloride Monohydrate: This acts as a mild local anaesthetic, gently numbing the sore areas of the gums to reduce pain and discomfort.
  • Cetylpyridinium chloride: A mild antiseptic, it helps to prevent infection in any minor breaks in the gum tissue that might occur during teething.

This dual-action formula helps babies aged 5 months and over find comfort when other non-medicinal methods, such as massaging the gums or using teething rings, aren't enough. It's an essential item for parents looking for trustworthy and affordable pain relief for their little ones.

Recognising Teething Symptoms

Teething can be a challenging time for both baby and parent. Common symptoms include:

  • Red, swollen gums
  • Increased dribbling
  • Irritability or fussiness
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Loss of appetite
  • Chewing on objects more than usual

Calpol Calgel Teething Gel 10g targets these symptoms directly, helping to soothe the discomfort so your baby can feel more settled. Always read the patient information leaflet before use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns.

FAQ

Can I use Calpol Calgel Teething Gel 10g with other pain relief for my baby?

It is important to consult your doctor or pharmacist if your child is using any other medicines, particularly those containing lidocaine. Calgel Teething Gel can be taken alongside Calpol Infant Suspension if pain and fever relief is also needed.

Directions

Calpol Calgel Teething Gel 10g is for topical use only and should be applied directly to the gums.

  • Apply a pea-sized blob of gel (about 0.2g, roughly a third of an inch) onto a clean cotton wool pad or your finger.
  • Gently rub the gel into the sore area of your baby's gum.
  • If necessary, you may repeat the dose after 3 hours.
  • Do not use more than 6 times in a 24-hour period.
  • Do not use for more than 7 days for each teething episode.
  • If your child vomits, spits, or swallows the medicine, do not use any more product immediately. Wait 3 hours before using the medicine again.

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you to. Do not give more medicine than the label tells you to.

PLEASE READ ALL PRODUCT PACKAGING AND LABELS PRIOR TO USE. KEEP ALL MEDICINES OUT OF THE REACH AND SIGHT OF CHILDREN.

Warnings

Do not give Calpol Calgel Teething Gel 10g:

  • To infants under 5 months old.
  • If your child has ever had an allergic reaction to the product, chamomile, or any of its ingredients. If this applies, get advice from a doctor or pharmacist without using CALGEL®.
  • At the same time as other products containing lidocaine.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist:

  • If your child has an intolerance to some sugars (e.g., if diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI)).
  • If you (or an older child/adult taking this medicine) are pregnant or breast-feeding, only use on the advice of your doctor.
  • If your child's symptoms persist or worsen after 7 days of treatment, or if you are concerned that your child is unwell.

Some ingredients can cause problems:

  • This medicine contains 29.4mg sorbitol in each 0.2g, which is a source of fructose.
  • This medicine contains 18.20mg of alcohol (ethanol) in each 0.2g, which is a very small amount and unlikely to have noticeable effects.
  • Xylitol may have a laxative effect.
  • Castor oil may cause stomach upsets, diarrhoea, and skin reactions.
  • This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23mg) per 0.2g, making it essentially 'sodium-free'.
  • This medicine contains 0.00019mg benzyl alcohol in each 0.2g. Benzyl alcohol may cause allergic reactions and/or mild local irritation. Do not use for more than a week in young children (less than 3 years old), unless advised by your doctor or pharmacist. If an older child or adult is taking this medicine and has liver or kidney disease, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice. Benzyl alcohol has been linked with severe side effects, including breathing problems (known as 'gasping syndrome') in young children. Do not give to newborn babies (up to 4 weeks old), unless recommended by your doctor.
  • This medicine contains 0.00077mg benzoic acid (E210) in each 0.2g. Benzoic acid may cause local irritation and can increase jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) in newborn babies (up to 4 weeks old).
